~ BMS Current and Relevant News ~

Trimester 2 Update: 

We can’t believe that we are almost finished with Trimester 1 and will be transitioning to Trimester 2 on December 3, 2024. Over the next two weeks, we will be inputting data into our Trimester 2 and Trimester 2 schedules. Due to the complexity of our T1 to T2 transition, we do ask that you give us time to make the necessary adjustments. We will send you a confirmation email once the schedule is finalized. Please hold off on any communication until we are done working behind the scenes. Thank you in advance for your patience during this transition. 

Family Coding Event at BMS:

CodeFAM: Coding with Families, A K-8 Event, Tuesday, December 10th from 6:00-7:00 pm 

BMS Student Union

The annual CodeFAM: Coding with Families event is free to the public and provides an hour of coding activities for all ages. All participants are welcome, including beginner to intermediate coders, to experience the magic of coding!  We hope to see you there!

Shark Tank Volunteers Needed:

Preparations for the 8th grade Shark Tank presentations are well underway. Students have been working hard to develop their business ideas and we need volunteer “Sharks”.  As a Shark you will watch student presentations and use a rubric to provide students with feedback.  No prior experience is required. 

The Shark Tank presentation will be on November 25th from 10:10 am - 12:10 pm in the Student Union (cafeteria).  If you are able to volunteer please signup using this Link. Calling 8th Graders!  Baby pictures for yearbook:

It’s a tradition at BMS to include baby/toddler pictures in the BMS yearbook during their 8th grade year.

Please complete the following form and upload your child's baby photo directly through this form.To avoid confusion, please ensure only one photo is uploaded per student.

PLEASE NOTE: You need to be signed into your or your child's gmail account. If not, you will not be able to upload the photo.

~ BMS Student Activities ~

BMS Swim Team:

Welcome to the 2024-25 Barrington Middle School Swim Team 

The BMS swim team practices on Sundays at Pods from 1:30-2:30 pm. The only time we will switch the practice times is for the Bay View swim meets. There are three home meets for Bay View. We will announce the exact times of these practices once we get closer to the meet start dates.

The following Sundays will be the practices:  12/8.12/15,12/22,1/5,1/12,1/19,1/26,2/2 and 2/8.

The following Saturdays will be the meet dates  : 1/11,1/25,2/1 and 2/15.  All meets begin at 1:15pm.

All meets and practices are held at Pods Swimming 111 Commercial Way, East Providence RI 02914.

This week, we shine our BMS Spotlight on our incredible school psychologist, Dr. Tillotson! In honor of National School Psychology Week, we celebrate the invaluable contributions Dr. Tillotson makes to our school community. From supporting students’ emotional well-being to collaborating with teachers and families to ensure every student thrives, Dr. Tillotson plays a key role in fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. Her dedication to helping students navigate challenges and achieve their full potential is truly inspiring. Thank you, Dr. Tillotson, for your unwavering commitment to our students and staff!

This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mrs. Oswald and Purple Cluster. I would like to thank Mrs. Oswald and the community service club for all of their work organizing the Tap-In Food Drive! I would also like to thank Purple Cluster for their generosity by donating over 300 items to the food drive! Thank you all for supporting such a great cause. (Nominated by Ms. Spillane)

  • Dropoff/Pick Up Process - If you choose to drop-off and pick-up your student from BMS, please see this map for directionsBus Eligibility Guidelines

  • Early Dismissal:  Handwritten notes brought to the office before homeroom or emails to bmsattendance@barringtonschools.org are needed every time you need to dismiss your student prior to the end of school.  Middle School level students are not allowed to bike home early, even with permission by note.  ID and a physical presence is required to dismiss your student early. Please note that the last early dismissal of the day is at 2:45 pmPlease click here for full details about dismissing your student early from school.

Books are Wings! BHS Senior Project:

Hello! My name is Tee Shapiro and I am a senior at Barrington High School. I am in the midst of my senior project and I am running a book drive in the month of December to gather books to donate to a non profit organization called Books Are Wings. This organization collects books for children and schools all across Rhode Island who have limited access to reading material. If you would like to donate, there will be a large donation box located in the Eagles Nest starting Monday December 2 - December 20. Thank You!

Bayside YMCA Youth Program Offerings:

  • Magic the Gathering:  Tuesdays 11/15-12/31 (no class December 24th) from 6:15 pm to 7:00 pm, Ages 10-14

  • Dungeons & Dragons:  Wednesdays 11/6-12/18 from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm - Dive into the epic world of Dungeons and Dragons with this awesome crew of tabletop game fanatics!  Ages 10 to 15

  • Girls Volleyball Clinic:  Thursdays 11/7-12/26 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, ages 12-16

Barrington High School Stagemasters:

The Barrington High School Stagemasters presents Annie at the high school on Thursday, November 21 through Saturday, November 23, 2024.  Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults.  Click here for the flier.
