BMS Spotlight on Learning!

This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Nurse Maddie! The last few weeks for BMS have been busy. We had nearly 13 positive cases and close to 140 close contact calls. Nurse Maddie has been a rockstar. She has ensured all families received appropriate paperwork, answered countless phone calls, made countless phone calls, all the while remaining positive and reassuring. Thank you Nurse Maddie for all that you do.

BMS Family Engagement Day: Overview

The BMS Family Engagement Day, scheduled for Monday, December 6, 2021, will provide our families with a balanced virtual experience. Families will be able to virtually check-in between 11:00am - 6:00pm with cluster and allied art teachers, review student portfolios, learn from cluster teachers about cluster/school initiatives, and learn from allied art teachers on various deeper learning projects.

(Note: BMS Family Engagement Day is not a time for individual parent conferences)

Note: Below you will find a sample schedule for the day. On Monday, December 6, 2021, by 10:00 am an actual schedule with appropriate zoom links will be emailed to our families.

BMS Family Engagement Day: Activities

Cluster Overview: 

• Cluster teachers will provide an overview on various topics (specific cluster topics will be made available with the schedule that will be emailed home on Monday, December 6, 2021.

Cluster Portfolio Share: 

• Cluster teachers will begin by providing an overview of portfolio, items to look through, and reflection protocol. 

• After the overview, the student and parents will engage in the reflection protocol.

• During the designated hour, the teachers will be available for questions. 

Allied Art Portfolio Share/Deeper Learning Showcase: 

• Allied Art teachers will begin by providing an overview of portfolio, items to look through, and reflection protocol. 

• After the overview, the students and parents will engage in the reflection protocol.

• During the designated hour, the teachers will be available for questions. 

• Allied art teachers will highlight various Deeper Learning projects occurring in their classes throughout the year. 

• Parents will be able to select/choose which allied art class to virtually visit. 

BMS Family Engagement Day: Student Portfolios 

By the end of this school week, your child’s teachers will have made their portfolios available to them. Depending on the class/teacher, the portfolio may be electronic or paper-based. Your child will be able to share this information with you. 

During the Portfolio Share portion of the Family Engagement Day, we ask that you review the portfolio with your child and engage in the reflection protocol. 

If you are unable to participate in the Portfolio Share portion with your child during the scheduled time, we do ask that over this coming weekend, that you find time to sit with your child to see the progress that they have made this school year.

BMS Newcomers Family Game Night:

Newcomers and families, join us for an evening of games, friends, and fun! Thursday, December 2 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm in the BMS Student Union.  Questions or to RSVP please email Jordan Rodrigues, Student Assistance Counselor, at rodriguesj@barringtonschools.org.

Emotional Regulation Group:

Attention 7th and 8th grade families: Mrs. Rodrigues the Student Assistance Counselor will be starting a 12-week Emotional Regulation Group starting the first week of January 2022. If you are interested in your child participating, or if you would like more information about this group, please reach out to Mrs. Rodrigues at rodriguesj@barringtonschools.org. Space is limited. Medal Design Contest:

Solar Power Presentation:

BMS will be hosting an In-person guest speaker from NEC Solar to discuss the use of solar power on Tuesday, December 7 from 3:15-4:15pm in the BMS Student Union.

Baby/Toddler Pictures for Yearbook:

Calling all 8th graders!  It’s your turn to upload your baby/toddler picture for this year’s yearbook.  It’s an annual tradition so upload yours here!  (Being logged into a Google account is required in order to upload your picture - feel free to use your own account or have your student log into their school account.)

Submit your Book Bite Suggestion and be featured on our BMS Morning Show!

Calling all readers!  Students can choose one of their favorite books and fill out the questions on this Google Form.  They will have a chance to have their name and  book mentioned on the BMS morning show!

COVID-19 Protocols: 

Full COVID Protocols are available on the District website by clicking here. Please note that all staff, students, and visitors will be required to wear a mask in the building. All visitors will be required to show proof of vaccination, as well.

Who should complete this voluntary consent for COVID testing: 

• Any student who participates in BMS Sports. (Note: all non vaccinated BMS athletes must be tested once a week)

• Any student who is in our BMS Band and plays a wind instrument. (Note: all non vaccinated BMS wind instrument players must be tested once a week)

• Any student who is in our BMS chorus (Note: all non vaccinated BMS chorus students must be tested once a week)

• Any student, for whatever reason, wants to have our BMS medical staff take a COVID test at any time for any reason. (Note: students who are not on the consent to test list will not be allowed to test).
