U.S. Secretary of Education Names Barrington Middle School a 2021 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School
The U.S. Department of Education announced today that Barrington Middle School in Barrington, Rhode Island is among the 2021 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools award honorees.
Barrington Middle School was nominated by the Rhode Island Department of Education for their innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability education. Barrington Middle School (BMS) participates in the Barrington School Department’s plan to manage energy use through the EPA Energy Star Portfolio Manager and BMS achieves a 40% energy savings above International Energy Efficiency Certificate 2009 baseline requirements.
Across the country, 27 schools, three early learning centers, five districts, and five postsecondary institutions are being honored for their innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability education.
