Barrington Public Schools has begun another busy and exciting month! The innovation and energy in each of our schools are just two of many reasons I am thankful for and so proud of our vibrant BPS community. As we embrace all that November has in store, I would like to share with you some of the past month’s noteworthy accomplishments.
October’s District highlights represent the intersection of excellent educational instruction, inclusive engagement, and community care that are present each day in our schools.
We celebrated our District’s hardworking and dedicated educators, coaches, and building administrators on World Teacher’s Day, National Coaches Day, and throughout National Principals Month. Our community is fortunate to have their expertise, mentorship, and leadership!
Hampden Meadows School students participated in International Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day which promotes physical activity, teaches students safe and healthy ways to get to school, and helps to reduce traffic and pollution. See the photos here.
Barrington High School students volunteered during Barrington’s annual Day of Caring and spent hours digging ditches, spreading mulch and wood chips, pulling weeds, and transplanting crops to help Barrington Farm School get ready for the winter season. See the boys cross country team’s volunteer efforts in action.
The District-wide recognition of Unity Day sent a visible message that Barrington Public Schools and our learning communities are united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. See the Unity Day recap here.
Barrington High School students participated in fun and safe Spirit Week and Homecoming festivities. Victory Field was loud and proud during the Homecoming game on October 20.
Deep learning was on display in October! Project Putt and Hampden Meadows School’s Music-a-Thon are two examples of the immersive education that takes place every day in our schools.
Mrs. Oswald, Barrington’s 2023 Teacher of the Year, received citations from the Rhode Island House and Senate for the transformative contributions she has made to our students and District. RI Senator Lauria and Representative Boylan visited Barrington Middle School to present Mrs. Oswald with this award!
Barrington High School was named to the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) School Honor Roll for students’ college readiness and AP participation. Read more about this distinction.
Barrington Special Election
Thank you for your sustained support of Barrington Public Schools. Tomorrow’s Special Election will give Barrington residents the opportunity to collectively determine the future of our District and Town. Voting is the foundation of our democracy and participating in local elections is an important civic activity. Question 1 on Barrington’s Special Election ballot asks residents whether to authorize funds for school construction projects. Review the ballot questions here. This short video provides some background on the proposed Barrington School Building Project and you can visit the project’s website for additional information.
I look forward to seeing what our students and staff will accomplish this month and thank you for your continued support of Barrington Public Schools by providing your feedback, sharing your time and talents, and creating strong school-community partnerships that help our students become responsible and engaged global citizens who are empowered to excel.
Wishing you a wonderful November!
