Wendy Parente Appointed New Assistant Principal of BMS!

Several weeks ago I developed a committee to select a new assistant principal.

Our committee included:

Peter Mcfarland - Science and Language ArtsTeacher and Student Council Adviser

Natalie Stein - Guidance Counselor

Heidi Dolan - Parent and School Improvement Team (SIT) member

Marlene Prichard - Family/Consumer Sciences Teacher, Building Rep.

Mary Roberts - Social Studies and Language Arts Teacher, Building Rep., SIT member

Bev Chittim - Secretary representing non-certified staff

Anna Clancy - Parent and SIT member

Monica Samolis - Language Arts Teacher and SIT member

Connie Oswald - Math and Language Arts Teacher

Richard Wheeler - Principal

This group of dedicate people met for many hours over several days to interview a very select group of candidates. With nearly 60 applicants, we narrowed our search down to 10 highly qualified individuals. We asked many questions, processed responses and then we came together and reached unanimous agreement on three finalists. We met these finalists again and then made our recommendation to Dr. McIntyre. The candidates were then interviewed by Dr. Calise, Ron Tarro, and Dr. McIntyre and I am pleased to announce that the Barrington School Committee has approved the selection of Wendy Parente as our new Assistant Principal.

Wendy has most recently served as assistant principal of Western Hills Middle School in Cranston. You will hear more from her about her career at our first PTO meeting on Monday, September 15.

Our selection committee is very pleased with this decision and is confident that Mrs. Parente will make a great addition to our team.

THE 2008 Society for Science and the Public Middle School Program, just announced that FIONA PAINE has been named as one of the 30 national finalists who will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. for a four-day event to compete for over $40,000 in scholorships provided by the Society for Science & the Public. Fiona will present her original science fair project to the judges and the public and then participate in team scientific activities held at the Koshland Science Museum. Congratulations to FIONA and we wish you well and have fun in D.C.
